Methods

Data were collected during the first half of winter (November-December) from 1991 to 2015 in woods and floodplain forests. Bird surveys were done in the morning, surveying 30-40 fixed randomly-selected plots each year, covering a total area of 1000-1200 km2, with the overall length of routes for all years being more than 20000 km. Density of birds was calculated using the number of birds detected in 3 different distance bands along the routes.
