Methods

Ground beetles were trapped in square metal pitfall traps with a perimeter of 1 m and a depth of 30 cm. Each plot consisted of three pitfall traps, spaced 10 m apart. Two of these were live-traps, and the third contained a 3% formaldehyde solution as trapping fluid. The numbers are the yearly sums for each species in each plot. A plot consists of 3 pitfall traps.
